Cards to keep on hand
Here's a little-known fact: Any event (or non-event) merits the sending of a card. People like getting cards. So go ahead…send a card for any and all reasons. You're likely to make the lucky recipient's day.
Blank cards are appropriate for all occasions, but sometimes it's nice to have a more customized look and message. So here's the basic stable of cards you should always have on your desk.
Thank-You Cards
Thank you cards have come a long way. While old school etiquette recommends a more formal note, today's top style mavens give the green light on whatever you feel represents you & your gratitude. One thing that everyone agrees on is accompanying the card or note with a hand written message of thanks. Not sure what to say or how to say it? Click here for more on thank you notes.
Birthday and Anniversary Cards
Even the most organized of card givers can relate to that panicked feeling of discovering that someone's birthday is upon them and they don't have a card on-hand. By keeping a few, broadly appealing birthday and anniversary cards on hand, you can always be ready for the one that pops up.
Oh, Baby
Seems like someone is always having a new baby. Of course, you'll want to congratulation the new parents, but why not send a note to siblings, grandparents, even godparents (if you know who they are).
Cards for Comfort
When people are experiencing a loss or a sickness, it is amazing how much a simple, yet heartfelt sentiment can soothe the soul.
Not sure what to say? Don't be afraid to express your sympathy by directly acknowledging their loss or their pain. And when writing a note of condolence, include a positive and personal memory of the recently deceased. If you didn't know the person, pay homage to the relationship the recipient had with the deceased.
Consider sending a check-in card months after the event, too. It acknowledges that the healing process isn't lightning quick, and that you understand that.
Blank Cards
If you keep only one card stocked on your desk, this is the one to have. On a blank card write a note of sympathy, wish happy birthday, say hi to your best friend…you can do it all with blank cards, and you accomplish important things. Most of all, the ability to give the recipient something so very you. Just for them.
